What are laminated shims?
Made up of extremely thin layers, or foils, that are pressure-bonded together and treated to form a solid, strong component, laminated shims are highly flexible in that individual foils can be peeled off, allowing for tiny, precise adjustments to be made during the aircraft assembly process. This ensures highly precise alignment and contact between parts, and ensures the stability that is required in an aircraft.

Wide portfolio of laminated shims
Laminated shims can be manufactured in a range of peel strengths, from 0.001” (0.025mm) to 0.004” (0.1mm). We are able to work with a range of materials, shapes and formats in order to ensure that we are able to meet the full range of shimming requirements across an airframe.

Variety of materials
At Lamsco West, Inc., our outstanding manufacturing capability means that we have the capacity to work with a wide variety of materials when constructing laminated shims. This ensures that we are able to produce the laminated shims that your specific airframe environment requires. The metals that we work with include stainless steel, aluminium, titanium, brass, beryllium copper and Inconel. We also manufacture laminated shims from non-metal materials such as nylon, polyimide and fiberglass. Our expert engineers understand the environmental stressors that are encountered in the different sections of an airframe and are well placed to advise our customers about which material would be most appropriate for their laminated shim needs.
